Before you write
- Chrome version (need 114+ for the side panel; WebGPU for LiteRT-LM)
- Side Eye version (from
chrome://extensions) - AI profile in use (LiteRT-LM, LM Studio, or Ollama) and whether a local server is running if needed
- Steps to reproduce and any error text from the side panel
Common fixes
- LiteRT-LM / WebGPU unavailable — LiteRT-LM needs WebGPU. Confirm Chrome shows a green WebGPU ready badge under Options → LiteRT-LM. Update Chrome, try a discrete GPU if available, or switch to LM Studio / Ollama instead.
- LiteRT-LM model not loaded — in Options → LiteRT-LM, click Load model and wait for the download (about 2 GB for E2B, 4 GB for E4B). Use Retry download or Re-download model if it fails.
- No reply / connection error (LM Studio or Ollama) — confirm LM Studio or
ollama serveis running and the server URL in Options matches. - CORS / 403 from local server — Side Eye is a Chrome extension and needs CORS enabled on your AI server. LM Studio: Local Server → Server Settings → turn on CORS. Ollama: set
OLLAMA_ORIGINSto*, then restart Ollama. On Windows, add it under Environment Variables; on macOS, runlaunchctl setenv OLLAMA_ORIGINS "*"and quit/reopen the Ollama app. - Image attach disabled — LiteRT-LM is text-only. Switch to LM Studio or Ollama with a vision model to attach images.
- Page context empty — enable the eye icon; check the domain is not on your ignore list.
- Voice not working — enable Speech in Options and wait for the model download to finish; try Re-download models if needed.
- Extension not visible — click the puzzle icon in Chrome and pin Side Eye; then open the side panel from the toolbar icon.
